John Thomson

Preaching Minister

I grew up in  Kansas where I  became a disciple of Jesus in my local church.   I hold an undergraduate degree in Biblical ministry  from Ozark Christian College and a master’s degree in Spiritual Formation from Lincoln Christian University.

My wife and I have now served in full-time ministry for 30+  years, serving congregations in Illinois, Ohio, and Wisconsin.  God brought us to Footville in 2007 and we have grown to love the people here in South-Central Wisconsin with all our hearts.   Jill and I have 4 grown children: Meghan, Samantha (and husband, Carl),  Katie, and Christopher.  We love spending time together as a family…navigating our season of living in several different places as we each serve Jesus.

In my down time I love  to fish, read, and paintball.  You will often find me headed to the Boundary Waters, to Rock River Christian Camp, or to Haiti as my love for God’s creation continues to deepen as I walk with Him.

I love to learn from God’s Word and from others who spend time in the Word to discover who God is and to get to know Him. That’s why one of my favorite sections of the Bible is from the book of Philippians. It says

But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing  Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ–the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.  I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead. – Philippians 3:7-11
